About George Bogden
George Bogden is a Washington trade lawyer who has worked on tariffs and customs enforcement from both sides: as a senior official at U.S. Customs and Border Protection and as counsel to the companies those rules apply to. He is Senior Counsel for Trade and Tariff Matters at Continental Strategy. He holds a doctorate in international relations from Oxford, writes on foreign policy and national security, and co-hosts the Clearer Than Truth podcast with Nathan Kiker.

Professional Experience
As Senior Counsel for Trade and Tariff Matters at Continental Strategy, George Bogden advises companies on tariff classification, Section 301 and Section 232 exposure, customs compliance, and the intersection of trade policy with export controls and sanctions. He was previously Executive Director of the Office of Trade Relations at U.S. Customs and Border Protection. He also clerked at the U.S. Court of International Trade, practiced law at King and Spalding LLP, and was Associate Director of the Hudson Institute's Center for the Future of Liberal Society. His writing has appeared in The Atlantic, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, War on the Rocks, and Lawfare. Washingtonian magazine included him in its 2026 list of Washington's 500 Most Influential People.
Academic Background
George Bogden holds a D.Phil. in International Relations from Oxford University, where he studied as a Clarendon Scholar and conducted field research in Kosovo. He earned his J.D. from NYU School of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Law and Liberty, and his B.A. in Political Science from Yale University as a Joseph C. Fox International Fellow. His scholarship centers on a book manuscript examining Ukraine's 1994 denuclearization and the security assurances of the Budapest Memorandum.
